WHAT ARE QUARTZ GEODE CRYSTALS? Geode crystals look like dull regular rocks from the outside, but the inside is usually composed of quartz or chalcedonic deposits. Some geodes have other minerals like celestite, calcite and dolomite. Most geodes develop deep within the earth in small hollow burrows that are created from tree roots or animals. The formation happens from a small piece of limestone or anhydrite. Over time, mineral rich waters seep into the burrow and harden around the small rock. This process repeats and the mineral-rich waters harden forming the crystalline structure and the outer crust of the geode.
WHY IT'S AWESOME? The term 'geode' originated from a Greek term meaning the shape of the earth. In folklore, geodes were considered to have healing power.

WHERE IT'S FOUND? Geodes are found all over the world with a great abundance being found in North America, (California, Utah, Arizona, Nevada and Iowa). They are also common where there are volcanic ash beds and in areas containing limestone and in desert regions.
