Illustrated guide to yooperlite: syenite host rock with fluorescent sodalite glow zones, a rough piece, and a vintage UV lamp on the Lake Superior shore

Under a blacklight

Shine a UV light and watch it glow.

Yooperlite is a branded type of syenite rock, prized for its abundance of fluorescent sodalite. Under certain lighting, such as a blacklight, that sodalite lights up in a luminous glow.

The story starts with Erik Rintamaki, rockhounding along the shores of Lake Superior with a UV light, when he lit up a darkened stretch of shore and stumbled on these glowing finds. The stones are believed to have been carried from Canada by glaciers, and collectors still head out in snowy weather with UV lights to find them gleaming, even from beneath the snow. The name comes from the “Yoopers,” as the local community calls itself.

A stone of truth and self-confidence.

Yooperlite is said to stimulate self-confidence and self-acceptance, and is known as a stone of truth that helps you recognize and express your feelings objectively. In crystal energy work, yooperlite is a type of sodalite, associated with the Throat chakra and speaking your truth.

In crystal tradition, spheres send energy out equally in every direction, and their symmetrical shape is thought to emit a high frequency of positive energy.

Crystals and stones have been prized through the ages for their timeless beauty, rich history and believed metaphysical properties; Spirit Magicka makes no guarantee of any mystical effect.
