Yooperlite is the branded name for syenite rich in fluorescent sodalite. In daylight it shows a calm grey with black, rust and white patterning.

Found by flashlight on the shores of Lake Superior.

Rock hound Erik Rintamaki came across these glowing stones while searching the Lake Superior shore with a UV light. The rock is believed to have been carried down from Canada by glaciers, and collectors still hunt for it after dark, sometimes glowing up through the snow. Its name comes from the Yoopers, as locals of Michigan's Upper Peninsula call themselves.
