A pocket-size sphere of smoky quartz.

Smoky quartz

Warm brown light, glowing through.

Smoky quartz ranges from light tan to nearly black, with varying degrees of transparency. Its brown color comes from natural radiation acting on traces of aluminum over millions of years, and the longer it forms, the darker it grows.

Often confused with topaz, it grows in large crystals and is a durable gemstone, resistant to breakage and a favorite in jewelry. It is found in Brazil, the United States, Switzerland, Scotland and Madagascar.

Grounding, protection and release.

In crystal tradition, spheres emit energy equally in all directions, and their symmetrical shape is thought to radiate a high frequency of positive energy.

Smoky quartz is believed to absorb and transmute negative energies, promoting grounding, protection and emotional stability. It is thought to enhance clarity of thought, help in overcoming challenges and bring balance and harmony, and is associated with a deep connection to nature, relaxation and positive transformation. Linked with the Root Chakra, it is said to provide grounding and stability and to support feelings of security and self-confidence.

Its history is just as rich: in 12th-century China, flat panes of smoky quartz made the first sunglasses, and in Scotland the Druids cherished it as a gemstone since ancient times. It is also known as Morion, from the Latin “mormorion,” a dark precious stone.

Through the ages, crystals have been collected and prized for their beauty, their rich history and their spiritual and metaphysical properties. We believe in the mystical properties of crystals, though nothing we sell comes with a magical guarantee.
