Selenite is a clear, pearly variety of gypsum. It forms when seawater evaporates and leaves mineral deposits behind, which slowly grow into fibrous satin-spar sheets and translucent blades. Its name comes from the Greek word for moon, and its milky-white, silky glow shows why.
Selenite is found in Germany, Morocco, Australia, Tunisia, the Middle East, Saudi Arabia, Canada and the USA. Every disk keeps its own fiber pattern and soft inner glow beneath the gold.
