Pietersite has the same radiant, 3D shimmer as tiger’s eye, but instead of simple bands its colors swirl across the surface, like flowing liquids frozen in time. It has the look of a churning storm.
The smooth, polished surface of a tumbled stone is said to enhance its energy, making it ideal for working with the metaphysical properties of crystals.

What is pietersite?
A brecciated stone from the quartz family.
Pietersite, also called Tempestone, is a brecciated semi-precious gemstone in the quartz family. Breccia comes from the Italian word for ‘loose gravel’: pietersite is made of broken fragments embedded in a matrix that looks folded and stressed by the pressure of the Earth. Its chatoyancy is similar to tiger’s eye.
It comes in many colors, and is often a mixture of gold and copper tones with cool blue hues. It is named after Sid Pieters of South Africa, who found it in the 1960s.
The Tempest Stone.
Pietersite is known as the Tempest Stone for its connection to the storm element. It signifies the storm that can rage within, and the cleansing and renewal once the storm has passed. It is believed to dispel stormy emotions and bring back feelings of calm and balance, and some people carry it while driving in harsh weather, believing it confers protection.
In crystal energy work, pietersite is connected to the brow (third eye) chakra and is said to stimulate the third eye and the pineal gland, helping to access intuition and promote profound precognition and spiritual visions. Its ethereal side, combined with its equally grounding parts, is said to connect divine intuition with the earthly realm.
Folklore speaks of pietersite as a stone of vision that can be used in shamanic journeys, and it is believed to help with the connection to the Akashic records and intuitive insights into your path.
Through the ages, crystals and stones have been collected and prized for their timeless beauty, their rich history and even their potential spiritual and metaphysical properties. We love the idea that crystals may have mystical properties, though nothing we sell comes with any sort of mystical guarantee.
