Holding it
Pick the hand that feels right.
Hold your pendulum in either hand. Your dominant hand gives greater control. Your non-dominant hand is said to leave you more open to receiving the pendulum’s energy. Try both and keep whichever feels natural.
First reading
Find its yes and its no.
Cleanse
Hold it under cold running water for about thirty seconds while picturing negative or stagnant energy washing away, rest it in sunlight or moonlight to recharge, or pass it through sage or palo santo smoke.
Calibrate
Sit quietly and let it hang freely from its chain. Ask a question you know is yes, such as “Is my name [your name]?”, and watch how it moves. Then ask one you know is no.
Test
Ask “Show me yes” and “Show me no.” It may swing in a circle, back and forth or on a diagonal. A smooth, consistent motion is a good sign the pendulum is a match for you, and you’ll read it more easily over time.
In practice, cleansing and calibrating matter most before first use; cleanse it regularly after that to keep its energy clear and its answers accurate.
