Mexican lace agate is a variety of agate formed through volcanic activity. Over millions of years, mineral-rich solutions filled cavities in the rock and laid down layer upon layer of microcrystalline quartz, building its intricate lace-like patterns, while druzy quartz crystals grew in the open pockets along the bands.
Iron oxide and other minerals present during its formation give it its distinctive red, in a delicate interplay with orange, brown and white. Prized for its mesmerizing beauty, it is often used in jewelry and decorative pieces.
The laughter stone.
