Amethyst takes its name from the Greek amethystos, “not intoxicated.” The Greeks and Romans prized it as a supposed remedy for drunkenness, and the ancient Greeks even carved drinking cups from it to ward off the effects of wine.
In crystal tradition, amethyst is the crystal of tranquility, intuition and protection. It is said to resonate at a powerful frequency, purifying the atmosphere and fostering clarity, protection and balanced energy, and to promote inner peace, spiritual connection and harmony.
